Blown bitumen grades or Oxidized Bitumen are produced by passing air through the penetration grades. This process provides the bitumen more rubbery properties than its original formula and they are simply harder bitumen. Hard bitumen under controlled temperature conditions is widely used as an anti-slip layer compound in the piling industry, for manufacture of roofing felts, the roofing and waterproofing industries, for sound dampening felts and under carriage sealant in the automotive industry, electric cable joint protection, joint filling compound, sealant compound and many others. Also used in sealing saw cuts and joints where expected movements are minimum. It is also used in the manufacturing of bituminous marine mastic for the oil & gas pipeline joints.
Cold Mix is a bituminous mixture containing mineral aggregate, water and binder(Tailor made cationic bitumen emulsion)prepared by a suitable device like concrete mixture or Cold Mix plant or a modified hot mix plant. Cold Mix can be proceed in all season and even with wet aggregates. technology is cost effective as well as environment friendly but also construction work . Cold Mix Technology is field application of mix design based tailor-made bi-tumen binders with the available aggregates without need of any heating in an environment-friendly manner.
It is not necessarily supply of specified grade of bitumen emulsions.Has been used extensively in many countries for new road construction and for preventive/ corrective maintenance. BTC Cold Mix is specially designed water based bitumen emulsion with moderate viscosity and optimized setting time for mixing stability with wide variety of graded aggregate.BTC Cold Mix grade is formulated for premix carpeting as well as premix seal coat application due to its high binder content & moderate viscosity.
Medium or slow-setting emulsions are used for 'mixtures', that is mixed with ag-gregate either in concrete-type mixers or in situ. Rapid-setting emulsions are not used for mixtures because they would tend to set during the mixing process and clog the mixer. Generally, in making mixtures, the finer the aggregate used, the slower setting the emulsion that has to be used. Therefore, stone mixtures re-quire medium-setting emulsions and sand mixtures require a slow-breaking emulsion. With anionic emulsions, the breaking process is predominantly by evaporation of the water in the emulsion continuous phase. Because of this, ani-onic emulsions are susceptible to temperature and humidity in terms of their breaking properties. Application : Premix carpet 20 -23 (kg / 10sqm area) Pothole repair 7% (weight of aggregate).
Bitumen emulsion SS1 is slow-setting, anionic type and are further characterized by their ability to remain stable on storage although produced with equipment that gener-ates a wide range of shearing forces. Such characteristics are imparted to the asphalt emulsions through the use of emulsion-conditioner compositions comprising a partially desulfonated lignosulfonate, preferably an anionic or non-ionic emulsifying agent and, optionally, a thickened. Application: It is using for cold asphalt in cold or humid or sealing. Asphalt emulsions are widely used in highway construction, surfacing and maintenance. They are also used in various other applications where water repellent surfaces are needed. Slow-setting emulsions are grades of emulsions that are sufficiently stable to allow mixing with fine or dusty aggre-gate mineral particles and further processing before setting to a coherent mass.

RS- 2 is a rapid setting, anionic water-based emulsified asphalt. It is supplied in bulk.
In water-based state Recommended Use RS-2 emulsified asphalt is designed for use as a bituminous binder for chip seals. It should be applied with well-cal-ibrated distributors. The distributor nozzles and spray bar should be sized and set to deliver the desired shot rate. The shot rate of BTC RS 2 should be determined by a laboratory chip seal design with the project aggregate and the conditions of the existing pavement. The air and pavement temperatures should be sufficiently high to allow the emulsion to fully cure. Seal coats and surface treatment should be placed when the air temperature is above 50°F and rising.

Bitumen Emulsion RS-1 is an anionic water-based emulsified asphalt con-taining minimum 57% bitumen designed for use as a bituminous binder for chip seals. Application: Tack Coat RS-1 cationic bitumen emulsion can be used at ambient tempera-ture at the spray rate of 0.25 to 0.70 litre per square meter (0.05 to 0.15 gallon per square yard).
